National Civics Bee

On May 6, 2026, the O’Fallon-Shiloh Chamber of Commerce hosted the regional competition for the National Civics Bee at The Hett at McKendree University. The event brought together 7th and 8th grade students from the area to compete for recognition, cash prizes, and a chance to advance to the national championship.

The National Civics Bee is a program of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce Foundation. It challenges middle school students to demonstrate their knowledge of civics and share how they contribute to their communities. Students submitted essays earlier this year, and the top finalists were invited to compete in person at the regional level.

Students who advance from the regional competition will represent Illinois at the state level, with national finalists invited to Washington, D.C. for the National Civics Bee championship in Fall 2026.

Here are your top three:
1st Place: Colin M., St. Clare Catholic School
2nd Place: Connor D., Fulton Junior High
3rd Place: Alexander K., Fulton Junior High

We are proud of every student who participated and grateful to the families, educators, and volunteers who made the event possible.
